Student involvement helps make NIU your new home while developing a sense of community. Student Activities can give you experience in your major field of study and offer ways to meet faculty and other students who share your interests. Your Student Handbook provides a comprehensive list with descriptions of Northern's organizations. Transfer students can get involved at Northern through participation in organizations and university events and by attending New Student Welcome Days and Corn Fest.
Students can join campus organizations such as fraternities, sororities, academic interest clubs, intramural sports teams, honor societies, volunteer organizations, or campus ministries. NIU acknowledges more than 30 fraternities and sororities and over 200 student organizations. For more information on how to get involved, contact Programming and Activities at (815) 753-1414.
NIU offers a wide array of campus events, from NCAA Division I athletic competitions to the Grammy-Award-Winning Vermeer Quartet.
